BOB BONHAM
Harold Robert "Bob" Bonham, 84, of Dyberry Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in the Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton following a brief illness. His beloved wife of 58 years, the former Ruth Haggerty, survives him.
Born on October 21,1939 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late John R. Bonham, Sr., and Tillie Mozeliak Bonham. In 1964 Bob joined his brother John in business as General Manager of John Bonham Road Supplies where he remained for 50 years until his retirement.
Bob loved sports of all kinds, following everything from NASCAR to baseball and football, favoring Penn State, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Pirates which, understandably, contributed to some colorful language when the games were on. He coached Little League and Teeners League teams while his son Mike played, and then continued to volunteer his time as coach of the Stars in the Teeners League for another 10 years. He also loved bowling and spent decades participating in bowling leagues in both Honesdale and Hawley.
Later in life his true passion was golf. He was a member of the Waymart Golf League at Memorial Links where he was affectionately known as "Uncle Bob" to all who played on Wednesday nights. He had a competitive spirit, and, in his final weeks, was disappointed at not being able to finish the season but was proud that his teammate Jerry Getz would be representing them in the championship round. Beyond the league, Bob and his golf buddies Jerry and the late Tom White and John Haggerty would travel weekly to area golf courses, enjoying the perks of mid-week senior discounts.
In addition to his wife Ruth, Bob is survived by his four children Michele Kominski and husband Dave, Honesdale; Lori Bonham, Wexford, Pa; Michael R. Bonham, Honesdale; and Amy Newman and husband David, Reston, Va. He was pre-deceased by his brothers John and James Bonham, and sisters Alice Kimble and Eva Parker.
A husband, father, brother, and uncle, Bob will be greatly missed and remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and kindness. In accordance with his wishes, following cremation a short memorial service will be held on Friday, September 27 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431 at 11:00 AM. Friends and family will be received beginning at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions in Bob's memory made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale PA, 18431 or to an area youth sports organization of your choice.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical teams at Wayne Memorial Hospital and Geisinger CMC for their compassionate care and support.
