Obituary of Alice M. Turner

Alice Gries Turner left us peacefully at the age of 91 on February 20, 2024. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Alice always put her family ?rst, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. Her warm smile and wonderful laugh will forever be etched in our hearts. She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved, and we have countless memories that we will hold dear. Born on May 19, 1932, she was the daughter of Russell Gries and Beatrice Weber Gries. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Connie Turner of Damascus, her grandchildren, Hope Turner, Joel Turner and wife Betsy, Aaron Turner, Faith VanBlarcom and husband Bobby, her great-grandchildren, Jacob Turner & Alissa Turner, Madison VanBlarcom & Hailey VanBlarcom, and Jase Boek. Her sons Daniel Turner and Jeffrey Turner, her husband Sidney Turner, her grandson Jason Boek, and her friend Harry Hust all preceded her in death. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Turner Swendsen, and many nieces and nephews. Alice was one of seventeen children and is survived by her siblings Rosemary Bayly, Joyce Fuchs, Lena Glossenger and husband David, and Harold Gries. Her siblings Alma, Leroy, George, Howard, Charles, Helen, Russell Jr., Jerald, Vernon, Allen, Walter and Gloria all passed before her. She loved visits with her family and friends and always greatly appreciated those who thought of her with a visit, a phone call, or a kind letter or card. Spending the holidays with her family, including playing games with her great-grandchildren, brought her immense joy and created lasting memories. She also really enjoyed to go for a ride down unfamiliar back roads and watching basketball, and always looked forward to those times with her family. Alice worked from 1972 to 1994 as a housekeeping aide at the Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon, NY (now Garnet Health Medical Center) where she took pride in her work and also enjoyed talking with patients and providing a comforting word. Viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main St, Honesdale, PA 18431, with the funeral service immediately after at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Damascus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Damascus Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 63, Damascus, PA 18415.
