Obituary of Donald Cecil Carney

Donald Cecil Carney, 90, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, bother, and friend was called home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2023. Donald was born on June 27, 1932 to the late Lillian Skinner and Cecil Carney in Torrey. He attended the Carley Brook School. He spent most of his career in the woods as a logger. He was married to the love of his life Lorraine Isabelle (DeGroat) on October 27, 1951 at the Bethany United Methodist Church. At the age of 19 they began their journey together, living an exceptional life. Lorraine preceded him in death on October 5, 2018. His love and compassion was evident in the way he lived his life. He was incredibly strong and his strength inspired all who knew him. He was quick witted and his humor was always able to make those around him laugh. He was hard working and was outdoors every day, rain or shine. He would never walk by a penny on the ground and not pick it up. He saw value and worth in everything and everybody. He loved going to the diner in the morning to have coffee and talk with his buddies. He worked hard to provide for his family even if that meant going without things for himself. Even in retirement, he never slowed down. He would salvage metals and haul pallets home to repair. He will be deeply missed. Donald is survived by his children, Constance Beck, Debra Buppelmann, Diane Carney, Jeanne Snyder and her husband Joe, Gayle Henshaw and her husband Ronald, Donald Carney and his wife Ellen, Dennis Carney, and Lorrie Zeiler and her husband Troy; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Heck and Lila Hayes. A brother Clinton Carney preceded him in death. Please join us in celebrating his life on Wednesday May 31, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street, Honesdale, PA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Canfield officiating.
