Obituary of Suzanne S. Grady
Please share a memory of Suzanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Suzanne Grady passed away early in the morning of July 26, 2022, while surrounded by family at Geisinger CMC, Scranton.
Service and compassion were the guiding star of Suzanne's life. As a young teenager, she began volunteering at Mt Saint Joseph, a residential facility for mentally disabled women. She later found her spiritual home at the Himalayan Institute, playing a leading role in developing the community in Glenview IL, and moving the center of the organization to Honesdale PA in 1981, where she would go on to lead residential programs and do administrative work for more than forty years.
In Honesdale she met and married the love of her life, Mick Grady, and raised two boys, Brendan and Rylan.
Suzanne was well known for her blossoming flower gardens. She also tended a beautiful garden around her home and oversaw the planting of beautiful arrangements all over the Himalayan Institute's 400 acre campus.
For decades, Suzanne's home was known for the warmth of its community Christmas parties where Suzanne would lovingly bake and prepare dozens of varieties of holiday bread, pastries, cookies, and refreshments. For hours, friends, neighbors and passersby would stop by to relish her warmth and cheer of the season.
Suzanne was always ready to lend a hand in the Honesdale community. She was actively involved in the PTA and she served on the board of Wayne Memorial Hospital for 16 years.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, Mick, and her two sons, Brendan and Rylan; sister Lorianne Pierce Bell and her husband Rich; son Chris Peirce; daughter Rebecca Ayers and her husband James, daughters Lily and Taylor; brother Keith Umbricht with wife Katrina and their children Danny and KC Umbricht; brother Scott Umbricht and his partner Kathy Binkowski.
There will be a memorial service for Suzanne on Thursday, August 4th at 3:00PM at the auditorium of the Himalayan Institute, 952 Bethany Turnpike, Honesdale, Pa. 18431.
