Barbara Joan Johannes, 76 of Cherry Ridge died on November 27, 2021 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Irving Johannes on November 18, 2007. The couple married on June 5, 1965.
Born on January 6, 1945 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Regina Olver Kennedy.
After being a stay at home Mom until her children entered school, she worked in various retail establishments including Grants, Murray's Department Store and Glinsky's Drug Store. She also worked for many years at Seven Maples Assisted Living Home before taking a clerical position at Suburban Propane. Prior to her retirement she worked at Weis Markets in Honesdale.
She was an active member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and taking long walks in nature. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. She was their biggest fan cheering them on in sporting events and other activities. She relished her time creating beautiful flower gardens and all outdoor activities.
Surviving are her daughters Nancy and Donna Johannes of Honesdale and Brenda Kriby and husband Thom of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Jack, Sam and Alexandria Eisele; sisters Arlene Merwin and husband Irving of Colorado, Dorothy Keast and husband Robert of Waymart and Joyce Wolfe and husband Homer of Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son Robert Johannes and brothers, Carl and Bruce Kennedy.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ellen Memorial Healthcare Center for the excellent care and compassion during her residency, especially during these last few weeks.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 3rd at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Rt 670, Bethany at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Darling Cemetery, Cherry Ridge.
Friends may visit Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main St., Honesdale on Thursday, December 2nd from 4-7 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Presbyterian Church or the Dessin Animal Shelter.
