Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Rothrock

Mary ( Betty ) Rothrock, 99, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 27. at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was the daughter of the late Sidney and Mary Day of Jersey City and Beach Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey she moved to Roselle Park, New Jersey in 1956 with her husband and her two children. She was an active member of the Roselle Park Community Methodist Church. As a young woman she joined the Order of the Eastern Star. Betty and her husband were active in this Masonic organization both in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She was recently awarded a certificate from Eastern Star for her membership of 80 years.
Betty and her parents started vacationing in Wayne County in the 1930s and her parents eventually built a vacation home in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania. She worked as the executive assistant to the President of Miller Northern Corporation, a printing and engraving company in Roselle Park. In 1988 after 30 years of service, Betty retired and moved full time to Beach Lake. For over 25 years she was a member of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering at the hospital's gift shop and the Other Shop 2 in Hawley.She enjoyed traveling, seeing shows, especially on Broadway, and spending time with her family in New Jersey and Connecticut.
She is survived by: her daughter, Elizabeth Zawacki and her husband, Robert of Windsor Connecticut; son, Daniel Rothrock and his wife, Dianne of Beach Lake; granddaughter Jennifer Zawacki and her partner, Raymond Hughes; grandson Andrew Rothrock and his wife, Megan, and great granddaughters Samantha, Aubrey and Genevieve Rothrock.
The family would like to thank all the people who were her caregivers in her later years: the friends and neighbors from Beach Lake, Loise Johnson, Dr. Paula Bennett and the loving and caring staff of Bethany Village. All the cards that she has been receiving in anticipation of her 100th birthday, will be treasured as a remembrance of a life well lived.
Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main St., Honesdale, Pa. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family at their convenience.
