Obituary of John William Blum

John Blum, 73, of Equinunk, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Allied Hospice Center after a 9month battle with cancer.
Born September 4, 1947 in Callicoon, NY, he was the son of Robert G. Blum and Laverna (Ewaine) Blum. He was a hard-working mechanic at his fathers auto shop in Honesdale, which led him to opening his own small snowmobile and motorcycle shop, BDS sports, in Equinunk. He also worked for 34 years as a welder for the railroad which he retired from in 2007. Above all else though, John was a loving and dedicated family man! The love of his life was his wife of over 45 years, Deborah S. (Lewis) Blum. He was a devoted and caring father to his 3 children; Jason Blum, Amy Jo Blum, and Marykate Blum as well as the many others that he took under his wing, and he was a wonderful grandfather to his 2 granddaughters Amelia Novajosky and Everly Eldred whom he adored.
John is survived by his wife Debra S. (Lewis) Blum of Equinunk, PA, his two daughters; Amy Jo Blum of Equinunk, PA, and Mary Kate Blum and her fiancé Aaron Novajosky of Pleasant Mount, PA, and his two granddaughters Amelia Novajosky and Everly Eldred. He was also survived by his siblings; Robert Blum of Equinunk, PA, Sister in law Shirley (Hiller) Blum of Equinunk, PA, Betty (Blum) Mills of Equinunk, PA, Mary (Blum) Minter and her husband Bill of Moncks Corner, SC, and Suzanne (Blum) Swartwout and her husband Frank of Equinunk, PA, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his sister in law with special needs whom he cared for, Michelle Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert G. Blum and Laverna (Ewain) Blum of Equinunk, PA, and his son Jason Blum of Equinunk, PA.
Friends and family are welcome to join on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in the Beacon family center at Calkins Baptist Church for visiting and services from 4 PM to 7 PM.
A small private service will be held for immediate family with Pastor Campbell Lumbilla officiating. Burial and Celebration Of Life will be held in the spring for all who would like to join.

Covid 19 precautions of mask wearing and social distancing are required.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in Johns memory to the American Cancer Society.
