Obituary of Janet M. Tiel
Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Ruth Mitchell Tiel was born in Honesdale, PA on Feb 9, 1926 to Leon L. and Lila E. (Stone) Mitchell. She lived in Waymart, Pa and then Honesdale. Janet died at home, in her bed, with her family around her, on Dec 20, 2020. Janet graduated from Honesdale High School. Soon after she began work at Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator; she had many stories to tell about her time there. She met her husband, Wayne, at a block party. They were married for 70 years and loved to travel the U.S. and especially to the Jersey shore. Their children and grandchildren were often invited on these trips, leaving us with fabulous memories. Mom loved the Lord. She was a member of the Honesdale Baptist Church. She served on many boards, the missionary committee, and sang in the choir. After Bell Telephone went dial Janet had a day care in her home and also sold Avon for over 40 years. She was a member of Honesdale Woman's club, the Friday night woman's church bowling team and many other organizations. She was very proud to be on the committee that was responsible for bringing the YMCA to Wayne County. In spite of all her activities her family was always most important to her and she was loved by us all. Surviving Janet are her daughter Carol [Chuck] Calicchio, Honesdale, Pa and son Robert [Patty] Tiel, Broomall, Pa. Grandchildren include: John Weidner, Lake Ariel, Pa; Mark [Jamie] Weidner, Pocatello, Idaho; Jennifer [Frank] Weidner Clark Honesdale, Pa; Alyssa [Tim] Andariese, Falmouth Va.; JenniferJohnna [Dom Cervasio] Calicchio, Dunmore, Pa; Gunny Sgt. Tiel and daughter Frances Marie Tiel; a grandchild Larry Weidner Jr., sisters Marie M. Rutt and Mildred (Millie) E. Temperton, and brother Everett L. Mitchell. A memorial service will be held in the Spring, as Janet would want you to enjoy your Christmas with your family and friends.
