Obituary of Phyllis C. Korb

Phyllis C. Korb, 87 of Honesdale, PA, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Richard James Korb on May 13, 1998.
Born on October 25, 1924, in Chautauqua, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Cook and Marian Sortore Bensen. Phyllis graduated from Fredonia Teacher's College in 1945 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Music Education. In 1946, she married Richard and began her family life in Honesdale. Phyllis was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church of Honesdale. She taught music and PA History in the Narrowsburg and Waymart Schools and also many one room schoolhouses in Wayne County. Phyllis also taught private music lessons in her home and at various churches including the Newfoundland Church. She was the church organist for the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Bethany United Methodist Church, Honesdale Baptist Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Honesdale, Honesdale Grace Episcopal Church, Indian Orchard Episcopal Church and the Beth Israel Temple in Honesdale. Phyllis was an author of music for the "The Stourbridge Lion" written in 1979 for the 150th anniversary of the locomotive's first run. She also penned the well known hymn, "The House of Prayer." She was an avid quilter and sold quilts to many folks in the community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Richard J. Korb and his wife Maxine of Honesdale, a daughter, Constance Macleary and her husband Willard of Honesdale; two grandchildren, Kara Poremba and her husband Stephen of Olyphant and Ricky Korb of Honesdale.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Grace Episcopal Church, 827Church Street, Honesdale with the Rev'd Edward K. Erb officiating.
Friends may visit the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 2:00-4:00P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M.
Interment will be Thursday in Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale.
