Scott Smith, 64, entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 6 after a courageous battle with heart disease. He was born September 21, 1954 in Dixon, Illinois to Shirley Kennedy and Eugene Smith. He was the oldest of 5 with 3 sisters, Colleen, Rosemary and Valerie and his brother Keith who pre-deceased him. He graduated from Dixon High School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a Master's Degree in Mathematics and Program Management. His military service began when he was drafted at age 19 subsequently choosing to join the Navy. He remained in the military moving up the ranks to Commander. He then retired after 25 years of service first taking a job as Program Manager for George G. Sharp Inc. finally working for 15 years at Lockheed Martin rising to a position of Executive Director. His first family included 4 children, Mike, Jenny, Suzy and Sarah. His second family included wife Linda and two children David and Jaya. Linda and Scott remained married for 20 yrs until his death. He adored his 6 grandchildren: Chase, Skyler, Jake, Ella, Quincy and Grant. Upon retirement from Lockheed Martin, Scott kept busy by teaching and tutoring mathematics at Lackawanna College-Lake Region center, working as Quartermaster for the VFW Post 531, and was elected to the Honesdale Borough Council for 4 years. Through these positions, he was able to fulfill his drive to help others and his community. Scott was a father, friend, and mentor to everyone, and has impacted our lives with his love, intellect, and drive to help people achieve their goals. He loved to make jokes and have fun, and he loved his family and friends. He knew how to work hard and play even harder, especially with his grandchildren. He will be severely missed. His end of life wishes are to be cremated with a burial at sea, and for his loved ones to hold a celebration of his life. This will be on September 29th, 11:00 @ Calkins Baptist Church- Milanville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lackawanna College Scott Smith Scholarship Fund or to the VFW Post 531. Arrangements are attended Arthur A.
