Obituary of Mabel A. Thomas

Mabel A. Thomas, 100, of Honesdale went to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 17, 2018 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center where she had been residing. Mabel was born December 12, 1917, the daughter of the late Clarence and Martha (Glosenger) Tiel. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Thomas; and son-in-law, John Marshall; brothers Leslie, Wayne, and Francis: and sisters Hazel Manger and Marjorie Smith. Mabel, in earlier years, enjoyed sewing, making quilts for her children and grandchildren and tending to her garden. She worked many years as a bookkeeper for Tiel Brothers. Mabel enjoyed spending time with her relatives, especially holidays, birthdays and family events. As a beloved Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Mabel enjoyed playing dominoes while keeping score, doing puzzles, fishing with a bamboo cane pole and picking huckleberries. She proudly enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to make homemade bread and everyone looked forward to her homemade popcorn balls, bringing lemonade in a glass jug to a picnic, Sunday chicken & dumplings, special occasion brown bread, Christmas pudding and much more. She is survived by her daughter Marjorie Marshall, Honesdale, PA and son Erwin Thomas and his wife Gwen of Greenwood, MS. Grandchildren Barbara Diliberti and husband Perry, Honesdale, PA; Linda Marshall, Honesdale PA; Earl Marshall and wife Alicia, Dunmore PA; Holly Harwood and husband Damon, Leicester, NY; Darryl Marshall, Honesdale PA; Sherry Thomas Gaines and husband Brian, Albuquerque, NM. Great grandchildren Emma Diliberti, Honesdale; Emily and Mary Harwood, Leicester, NY; Jacqueline Kelly, Mackenzie and Samantha Marshall, Dunmore, PA. and many nieces and nephews. As per her request private cremation was held and a graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
