Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald D. Daniels, 84, Honesdale, died Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Werner Daniels, in 2017. Born in Honesdale, son of the late Willard and Hilda Conbeer Daniels, he graduated from Honesdale High School in 1951. After graduation Jerry joined the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Honesdale and worked as an automotive mechanic in several local garages. Jerry then began employment with John Bonham General Contracting, where he operated heavy equipment for more than 40 years. Subsequently he worked for Bonham Road Supplies in Honesdale until retirement.
Jerry was a man who dedicated his life to work and family. He was widely known for his skill as an operator of heavy machinery, and the results of his talents can be seen in a great number of places in Wayne County. Jerry was involved in the building of numerous area ponds, bridges, and sports fields. He worked on dam repair projects and countless excavation sites. Jerry helped to build homes for three of his children and could always be counted on for remodeling, plumbing, and mechanical work of any kind. In his leisure time, Jerry found enjoyment in tinkering with his John Deere tractors, working in his garden, and spending as much time as possible in the outdoors. For his children and grandchildren, Jerry was a model of what a man should be: selfless, giving, kind, and humble. He will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Katherine and Daniel Darling, Santee, California; and Amy and Joel Costantino, Waymart; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Michael and Marianne Daniels, Honesdale; Jeffrey and Jan Daniels, Beach Lake; Patrick and Kimberly Daniels, Honesdale; and Brian Daniels, Honesdale; a sister, Lois Beyer, Wesley Chapel, Florida; a brother, Ronald Daniels, and his wife, Maria, Poughkeepsie, NY; 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Elizabeth Schwartz and Joyce Perry.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon - 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 7, 2018, in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
