Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene L. Perkin, 95, of Beach Lake passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22 at Wayne Woodlands Manor after an illness. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 10, 1922 to Borge and Amalie Knudsen Larsen. She met her late husband C. William "Bill" Perkin while vacationing in Beach Lake at Perkin's Honey Farm and they married on November 16, 1946.
Irene was a homemaker for many years and a loving mother to four children. She later worked at Woodloch Pines in the housekeeping department for 18 years, retiring in 1986. In the 50's and 60's she had her own fruitcake business. At Christmas time she would make dozens of fruitcakes and ship them to customers locally and all over the world. Irene loved to play cards and spent many hours with her Welcome Lake friends playing Pinochle. She was talented in creating counted cross stich pictures and gave many to her friends and family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing games, baking, and sitting on her porch. She was an avid reader until later years when her eyesight became poor. Irene loved the Beach Lake United Methodist Church where she was one of its oldest members, and she loved her church family.
Irene leaves behind her son, Robert Perkin, and his wife Patricia of Ledgedale; her daughter Janis Daniels and husband Jeffrey of Beach Lake; daughter-in-law Alicia Cornell of Beach Lake; granddaughters Jennifer Brown and husband Matthew of Garden City, New York; Amanda Dirlam of Astoria, New York; Olivia Rickard and husband Michael of Honesdale; Emily Daniels and fiancé Ryan May of Berwick; grandson Eric Daniels of Beach Lake and great granddaughters Madeline, Elizabeth and Willa Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her daughter Penny Dirlam, her son Roy Perkin, and her siblings Erling and Norman Larsen and Ruth Lake.
Irene's family would like to thank the staff of Bethany Village and Wayne Woodlands Manor for the excellent care she received while she was a resident.
