Obituary of Eleanor C. Keesler

Eleanor Keesler of Equinunk passed away on Monday August 7, 2017 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was married to the late Reuben Keesler.
Born in Lookout the daughter of the late Gerald and Lottie Diehl Hawley. She graduated from Hancock Central High School, class of 1942. After graduating high school she began a lifelong career as a bookkeeper for several local businesses: Manchester Township, Johnson and Rhodes in East Branch, NY, Mallory's Sawmill in Hancock, Agway Petroleum, Honesdale Feed Bin, and Manchester Sewer Authority until retiring in 2015. Eleanor was a waitress in the 1960's at Camp Equinunk Hotel. She was president ,curator, and genealogist for the Equinunk Historical Society and a US Census taker twice. Eleanor was a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and the Upper Delaware Heritage Alliance. She co-edited six books published by the Equinunk Historical Society and rewrote and republished five local regional historical books. Eleanor was founder and past officer of the Pine Mill Community Hall. As busy as they were, Eleanor and Reuben worked the family farm, raised three children and put them through college.
She is survived by her three children; Michael and Karen of Pine Mill, Susan Keesler and her husband Frank Conlon of Pine Mill, and Martha Keesler of Longlake, NY; five grandchildren, Kenneth and his wife Michelle, Lottie, Brian and his partner Anna, Christopher and his wife Liz , and Harold and his wife Jenna; nine great grandchildren, Samantha, Brittney, Shelby, Alexis, Savannah, Keira, Bryce, Beau, and Connor; one great great grandchild, Kaisyn; three brothers, Harold and Dorothy Hawley of Honesdale, Evertt and Joan Hawley of Raeford NC, Mark and Sally Hawley of Lookout; four sisters, Evelyn and Russell Peters of Hortonville, NY, Grace and Charles Mills of Callicoon, NY, Joyce and Robert Hellmers of Honesdale, and Lois and Robert Kooch of Clayton, NC.
She was preceded in death by an infant child, Timothy Keesler; two brothers, Clayton Hawley and Lowell Hawley; a sister in law, Janet Hawley; sisters, Marion Daub and her husband Fred Daub, Gladys McCormick.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 9:00- 11:00 AM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street, Honesdale .A graveside funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation on Friday at the Pine Mill Cemetery.
Friends may also visit on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale.
