Obituary of Alton R. Adams
Please share a memory of Alton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alton R. Adams, age 59, of Equinunk died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the home of his son in Youngsville, NY. Alton was born January 31, 1958 in Callicoon, NY. He is the son of the late Ralph and Heather (Hillman) Adams.
Alton was born on a farm into a large family with two brothers and four sisters. He grew up helping with farm chores and working side by side with his father and siblings. Later, for a time, he worked in the family business. Eventually this led to working in the trucking business.
At age 24 Alton met and married the love of his life, the late Tracy Frey, who blessed him with five beautiful children. They moved off the family farm and into a home that they renovated. By then Alton had been badly injured in a work accident and was unable to resume work. He was a devoted family man. Alton spent his time with his family, raising his children to become hard working, God loving people like himself. He was so proud of his family; never missing a school performance and chaperoning nearly every school trip.
Raising five children was a task in and of itself and he managed to find time for his favorite activities: wood working, cooking, hunting, and fishing. Alton never allowed himself to be idle. He simply couldn't do it.
Alton's life was full yet he always made time for others. Giving of himself even when most would say they had nothing to give. He had a heart of gold, trying to help friends and family alike. Alton believed in being a part of the community. He assisted in the building of the community library, helping with community fund raising events, working on the election board, and volunteering on the recycling collection days. As time passed he found his greatest joy yet, his grandchildren. Alton shared many stories with friends and family about his grandkids.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and spent his last days at his son's house surrounded by loving family. He was a member of the Braman United Methodist Church.
Alton is survived by his sons, David Adams and his wife Bethany of Youngsville, Bruce Adams and his wife Stacey, Alex Adams of Equinunk; a daughter, Candice Violante and her husband Eric of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Aurora Violante, William Violante, Delilah Adams and Eva Adams; brothers, Roy Adams of Equinunk and Michael Adams of Germany; sisters, Heather Rollison and her husband Burton of Equinunk, Deborah Peters and her husband Kurt of Livingston Manor, Laurie Lockwood of Lake Ariel, Linda Kraft and her husband Allen of Damascus; several nieces and nephews
