Eugene "Bunk" E. Bigart died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Regional Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, the former Cathie Cottell. He was preceded in death by his previous wife Geraldine Dolph Bigart.
Bunk was born in Cherry Ridge on April 25, 1935, he was the son of the late Earl Bigart and Alme Batzel Sherwood. He attended the Hoadley's one room School House. Bunk later served in the United States Marine Corp, during the Korean War. He was co-owner of Wayne County Ready-Mix, and also operated a Sand and Gravel business. Bunk was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, he was a very active member and Director of the Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale. He loved baking, especially Christmas Cookies, for his family and friends. He and Cathie would frequently take cookies to the residents of Ellen Memorial Health Care and Bethany Village. Bunk touched so many people with his kindness and he will be missed by all.
Bunk is survived by seven loving step children and their spouses, Theresa and Robert Diehl, Cathie and William Kelly, Karen and John Burkavage, David Cottell, Margaret and Thomas Meszler, Mary and Theodore Moser, Jean and Robert Warnock; a sister, Alta and her husband Robert Myers; 31 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Bigart; his sister Vicki Hansen, a great grandson, Aidan Melvin Irwin and a grandson, Michael David Melvin Cottell.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale.
