RAYMOND C. (RAY) SCULL
Raymond C. (Ray) Scull, age 87, of Honesdale, passed away November 4, 2016 at home with his devoted wife of 65 years, Rosella (Troop) Scull, at his side.
Born May 15, 1929, in Carbondale, he is the son of the late Clarence and Florence Shaffer Scull. After attending Ben Franklin High School, he enlisted in the US Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Salem during the Korean War.
Ray was a member of the David McKelvey Petersen American Legion Post 254, a life member of Hose Co #1, and a former member of the Perkins Rod & Gun Club.
Noteworthy during his career, he was an electrical contractor, maintenance manager at Chroma Tube, and teacher of construction trades at Delaware Valley Job Corps Center, exemplifying his life-long commitment to training and educating youth.
His most notable contribution to the community was as founder of the Honesdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps in 1976. With the strong support from the late Dr. Harry Propst, the corps was formed to fill the need for emergency care response in Wayne County. He guided the Corps as President and then Chairman of the Board of Directors until stepping down in 1991 as a retired honorary member.
A man of many talents, Ray excelled at woodworking, spending many hours in his shop doing delicate fretwork carving. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and keyboard. When taking some time to relax, Ray enjoyed fishing and boating at the family lake house at Duck Harbor, as well as hunting.
In addition to his wife, Rosella, he is survived by his daughters, Sandi Scull and partner Barry Tretheway, Bonnie Scull Blair, and son, Ron Scull and wife, Tammy, all of Honesdale; grandchildren Jessica Scull and fiancé Joe Gries, Kristen Scull, Rebecca Scull, Danielle Blair, McKenzie Blair, and great grandchildren, all of Honesdale area; nephew Bill Troop and wife Beth and family of Atco; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by extended family Jack and Barbara Oberly, SD; Tom Oberly, FL, and Sue Oberly Spitzer and husband Jamie, CO.
He is pre-deceased by his sister, Viola Marshall, nephew Alan Marshall, niece Barbara Marshall Sprague.
A heartfelt thanks to Jessica Tuttle and Karen Shaffer and the Wayne Memorial hospice services for their dedicated care.
Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 PM at Bryant's Funeral Home; North Main Street; Honesdale. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 AM from Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa ; interment to follow at Indian Orchard Cemetery with Pastor Barbara Snyder officiating.
