Obituary of Francis L. Tiel

Francis L. Tiel of Honesdale passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center after an illness. Born in Honesdale, June 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Clarence and Martha Tiel. Francis would have celebrated his 91st birthday on Saturday. Francis was married for 63 years to his beloved wife Sara Jane who survives him. A graduate of Honesdale High School. He was in business with Tiel Brothers of Honesdale. Francis served in World War II, Military 349th Infantry, 88th Division Blue Devils. He received several medals including the Bronze Star while fighting in Naples, Rome, and the Brenner Pass in Italy. Francis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Honesdale, a life member of the Alert Fire Company, and the Blue Devils. Francis is survived by a sister, Mabel Thomas of Beach Lake; a brother, Wayne Tiel and his wife Janet of Honesdale and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Tiel and sisters, Margery Smith and Hazel Manger. At his request there will be no viewing. Cremation and burial in East Dyberry Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale, Pa.
