Arline G. Martin, lifelong resident of Dyberry Township, Honesdale PA passed peacefully into the Lord's presence on Monday, March 21, 2016. She was 94 years old. Her husband of 46 years, Harold I. Martin preceded her in death in December of 1988.
Born September 8, 1921, Arline was the only child of Florance E. Gillette and Millard R. Swingle. Arline's mother died from tuberculosis three months after giving birth and Arline was reared primarily by her paternal grandparents William & Anna Swingle.
Arline married Harold shortly after they graduated high school. They took up residence on the family farm in Dyberry Township and continued farming for a number of years while raising their eight children. Arline was a homemaker until entering the work force as a receptionist at Wayne County Bank when her youngest began school. Here she became the friendly face that greeted those who visited the bank. She formed many wonderful friendships with her coworkers and enjoyed travelling with many of them also. Arline was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church Honesdale where in her earlier years she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and played organ and piano. Having persevered through the Depression and other hardships, Arline was a resilient, strong woman. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her children and many grandchildren. She will be remembered fondly for her kindness to all and love for her family and the Lord.
Arline is survived by her children and their spouses, daughter Nancy Opett and sons, David Sr. ( Janet), Robert Sr. (Diane), Gary Sr. (Debbie), James Sr.(Fran), John (Kim), and Edward, a half-brother William Swingle and half-sister Ann Pecota, 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
