Obituary of Norma B. Mettler

Norma Bodie Mettler came into this world on November 14, 1926 and passed away on February 16, 2016 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. Norma was born in Bethany, PA to Harold and Ruth (Brock) Bodie; the family moved to Newton, NJ when Norma was age 5. She was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1945. In 1949 she married Benjamin E. Mettler of Layton, NJ; they resided in Hampton Twp. until relocating to Honesdale in 1991. During Norma's life she was employed at Anken Chemical, United Telephone Co., Limestone Products Corp., the craft department of Fitz Johns Hardware in Newton, NJ, and served as a volunteer at Wayne County Public Library for many years. She loved to sew, bake, entertain, and make a variety of crafts. A weekly treat was playing cards with her good friends. Besides her family, her one true passion was nature. She was an avid bird watcher and found peace watching all the animals and bird life that frequented Norma and Ben's PA home. Norma is survived by her loving husband of 66 years; her daughter, Darlene Mettler Sabourin and son in law, Ronald P. Sabourin of Colchester, VT; her son, Brian E. Mettler and daughter in law Nancy Luchetti-Mettler of Newton , NJ; and granddaughters, Megan, Brielle, Caitlin, and Heather. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Norma and Ben's wonderful neighbors and friends and the local staff of multiple caregiver facilities for their support over the years. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Norma's friend, Gayle Levy officiating. Friends may visit on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norma's memory to the Wayne County Public Library at 1406 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. Interment will be in the spring in Mettler Family Cemetery in New Jersey.
