Obituary of Raymond C. Bodie

Raymond C. Bodie, 86, of Bethany, died Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Betty A. Williams. They married on November 6, 1952 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale. Born on October 18, 1924 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Norman and Isabelle O. (Bryant) Bodie. Ray attended Honesdale High School and later served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II with the 489th Order Evacuation from 1943 to 1945. Ray owned and operated a trucking business for many years for which he hauled coal. He was also a school bus driver and an automotive repairman for radiators. Ray was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he formerly served as a member and past President of the Council. For thirty-six years, Ray served on the Bethany Borough Council. He was also a member of the Honesdale Fire Company #3. For many years, Ray and Betty enjoyed being members of the "Rare Squares" square dance club. He is also survived by three children: Randon Bodie and his wife Debra of Honesdale, and Jeryl Mullen and her husband James of Sayre, PA, and Terrie DeDecker of Arizona; a sister, Betty Fenyo of Wayne, NJ; six grandchildren: Korey Bodie and his wife Toni, Jamie Bodie, and Craig Bodie, Daran Mullen, Kylene Mullen and Ryan Mullen; three great-grandchildren: Tristyn Bodie, Breydon Sislo, and Brianna Bodie. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church 107 7th Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with the Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Ray's memory to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 107 7th Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 or the Bethany Public Library, 8 Court Street, Bethany, PA 18431.
