Matthew D. Lautenschlager, 41, of Collegeville, PA died Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Hospice Of The Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He is survived by his wife, Arwyn Lautenschlager and his parents.
Matthew was born in Honesdale, the son of James and Mary Jane Lautenschlager.
He graduated from Honesdale High School, Class of 1992 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Lock Haven University and a Masters Degree in Education from Cabrini College, Radnor, PA. Matthew taught for 3 years at Woodlynde School in Strafford, PA and then for the School District of Philadelphia for 14 years. He had also worked as a substitute teacher and home school teacher in the Honesdale area. Matthew was an exceptional teacher and role model.He will be remembered for the love and care that he was able to show his students. He enjoyed reading, especially Stephen King novels. Matthew loved the Miami Dolphins and he was also an avid New York Yankees fan. He would be very pleased that the Dolphins beat the Eagles this past weekend. Matthew loved his family! He looked forward to family game night, playing football with his nieces and nephews and getting together for the holidays.
He was a former member of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale for several years. He was a man of strong faith.
In addition to his wife, Arwyn, he is survived by his daughter, Taqueena Martin of Collegeville; three sisters, and their spouses: Trina Kilhullen and Gene White of Scranton, Angie and Duane Baer of Honesdale, Janea and Sam Fox of Waymart ; 13 nieces and nephews, Kylie (fiance, Jeremy Willett), Calvin, Trae, Emily, Samantha, Cyle, Travis, Sierra, Brad, Katarina, Adalyn, Samuel, and Lily; three cousins, Jp, Colette, and Wendy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale, Pa. Friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday , November 18 from 6:00-8:00 PM for a viewing and Thursday, November 19 from 10:00-11:00 AM.
