Q: How did you meet Louise?
A: Louise and I met through NYU. She was a professor, and I was a development officer. I was assigned to help her department with its fundraising. Through our mutual love of dogs and music, a friendship developed. We dined together, visited each other's homes, and attended concerts. Although I sometimes became frustrated at her unruly dogs and lackadaisical manner, some event, now long forgotten, a couple years before her death caused a rift. It was when I realized how much I missed her and began looking for her, that I made the horrible discovery of her death several years before, which I almost cannot accept. I google her name from time to time hoping to understand why she died so young or, faint hope, that it is all a terrible mistake. I might yet see her bright, warm smile and hear her infectious laughter,

I was going through my books and found a music journal that Louise gave out to her students. I decided to look her up on the internet because she made such an indelibly positive impression on me. To my dismay, I found that she has passed. She was a beautiful soul and it saddens me to think that she has left this planet at such a young age. My condolences to all who loved Louise.

I just now learned that Louise Montello passed from this earth in 2014. My deepest condolences to her family. I wanted you to know that I met Louise at the Himalayan Institute and took a workshop with her that changed my life. I tapped into something within that was reached through one of her inner sounding exercises, and when I listened to that "something" so many things in my life made sense, and I made some much needed changes that I've always traced to that experience with Louise. Rest in peace, and thank you, Louise!

Louise was a strong believer in the spirit and strength within us all, especially musicians and those who had misplaced their creative gifts. She shared her knowledge of healing arts and empathic skills with musicians and therapists all over the world. I just learned of her passing, and I am sad that her presence will no longer be available to those who regained their ability to create and serve others. She referred me to a great teacher who helped me learn a healthier way to play piano and enabled me to continue playing music without pain.
Louise was an inspirational teacher and a lovely person, also a really fine jazz pianist. Her legacy continues with those whom she trained and those she helped to live a fuller, soulful life.

I am reallty shocked and saddened to learn that Louise is no longer with us.
I was lucky enough to attend one of her music performance wellness workshops in london back in 2009, and also own some of her books on music. To me Louise was/is an inspirational person, and role model, and I hope that her work and legacy will continue in her memory, for many years to come
On a personal note to Dr Montello: I feel honoured to have met you, and am in shock that you are no longer with us. I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate your existance and contribution to music/healing/spiritiualility, and offer you a big thank you for being a positive part of our lives.
Best wishes
Marc

I just learned tonight, 9-23-16 that Louise passed. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. I am a board certified music therapist and am fortunate to have had a personal interaction with Louise a number of years ago when I had written a journal article in which I quoted Louise. I had a personal communication with Louise at the time in which she generously granted me permission to use her quote. She was very supportive to those in the field of music therapy and her passion for life came through in her spiritual approach to her work. The field is better for her having been in it. I can only imagine what she brought to the rest of her life and how much she will be missed.

Ms. Montello was my professor and counselor at the New School. I will always
remember her with great admiration and respect. I just
found out yesterday about her leaving us. I called the Creative Arts dept to inquire
about a catalog and I asked for Dr.Montell and I was shocked when told she had passed away. She was a great lady and may she rest in peace.
Love and God bless

I was deeply saddened to hear of Louise's passing. I took the level 1 Performance Wellness training in San Francisco several years ago and was inspired by her passion for life in general, positive outlook and genuine compassion for others. My deepest sympathy to her family. She will be greatly missed in the music therapy community.

Louise was a fellow member in a therapist peer supervision group at NYU. We kept in touch through the years with occasional lunches. For a time, I shared her office with her.
Louise was an impressive person: intelligent, talented, insightful, and compassionate. She left an indelible mark in her field, as well as in the hearts and minds of those that had the good fortune to cross paths with her. After my son was born earlier than expected, I will never forget sitting across from Louise at lunch, and her saying: well it seems like he was eager to be with you.
Louise seemed to always say the kindest and most comforting words at the right moments.
Please accept my deepest condolences to you and your families.
