Obituary of Richard O. Eldred

Richard O. Eldred, 78, of Bethany, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday morning, March 22, 2014 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Born June 21, 1935 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Orvis and Selma Myers Eldred. A graduate of Honesdale High School, Richard earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at Shelton College. He established a tremendous legacy of teaching for 42 years as a Professor of World History at Nyack College. Richard was a founding and devoted member of the Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle, now known as the Tabernacle Bible Church, and was currently enjoying teaching Sunday School classes. Richard was an avid Wayne County historian and was a member of the Wayne County Historical Society. He was also interested in genealogy and devoted much time to its study. Richard will be remembered as a sincere and honest servant of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his brother, Ronald C. Eldred and his wife Mary of Honesdale; his niece, Suzanne McKean and her husband Richard of Highland Lake, New York; three nephews, Ronald Daniel Eldred and his wife Ruth, Donald Eldred and his wife Kim, and Timothy Eldred and his wife Johnna, all of Honesdale; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the Tabernacle Bible Church 455 Grove Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Pastor John Banks officiating. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 10:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Tabernacle Bible Church, 455 Grove Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431. Interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Indian Orchard.
