Obituary of Janet L. Gaardsmoe

Janet L. Gaardsmoe, 77, of Aldenville, died Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ted C. Gaardsmoe, who died in 2007.
Born on July 9, 1936 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Isabel Remsen Loesch.
Janet graduated from Waymart High School. Following graduation and marriage, she was employed at the Califon Elementary School in New Jersey where she was the school librarian. Since 1987, Janet has been a member of the Waymart Volunteer Ambulance Corps.; most recently she served as President of the board. Janet was also a member of the American Red Cross, and enjoyed several years of service on the Senior Project Review Committee for Western Wayne High School. An avid reader, Janet loved books and was especially fond of her association with the Lake Alden Book Club.
She is survived by four children: Laura Monczynski and her husband David of San Jose California, Margaret Gaardsmoe of Honesdale, Eric Gaardsmoe and his partner, Lynne Allen of Hellertown, PA; and Amanda Hart and her husband Jerry of Archbald; two grandchildren: Samuel and Annabelle, who were a source of great joy and pride; two sisters: Margaret Gill and her husband Walter of Binghamton, New York, and Nancy Ruff and her husband George of Lewiston, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Aldenville Baptist Church, Aldenville, PA with Rev. Gary Gilpin officiating.
Friends may visit on Friday, January 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Jenkins Funeral Home, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janet's memory to the Human Resources Center, Inc. 294 Bethel School Road, Honesdale, PA 18431.
Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery, Honesdale.
