Obituary of Ruth Glossenger
Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth (Brown) Glossenger, 87, went to be with her Lord while a patient at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, PA, April 16, 2011. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death, August, 1996.
She was born September 6, 1923, to Herbert and Isabel (Taylor) Brown.
She left home at 13 years of age and went to work at a boarding house in Maplewood, PA, while attending Lake Ariel High School. She graduated in 1941. She met and married Robert Glossenger June 9, 1942. In 1943, they purchased and moved into their house in Beach Lake. There she started a hobby of making and decorating wedding cakes which became a legacy.
Ruth accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior as a teenager. She fell deeply in love with Jesus and never hesitated to share that love with everyone she met. She passed out gospel tracts to pilots on planes on which she was flying, at doctor's offices or in the hospital and grocery stores to let people know Jesus loved them and that she was praying for them. Ruth and her husband were instrumental in the establishment of Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle and where recorded as charter members in 1956.
At her small house in Beach Lake she crowded 30 children into her small living room telling them Bible stories and singing songs always ending with an invitation telling them how they could be born again and be ready for Heaven.
She was an avid letter writer by keeping contact with students who went off to college from the Tabernacle. She also wrote to many who went astray and ended up in prison, telling them that Jesus loves them and she was praying for them. She even wrote to judges pleading their cases.
She is survived by a daughter Ruthann Santoli and husband Sal of Honesdale; a son Rev. Bob Glossenger and wife Lois of North Carolina; one brother N. "Pat" Brown and wife Joyce of Greely, CO; 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Francis, Eugene, and Albert; sisters Betty, Beatrice, and Marion.
Services will be held at the Tabernacle Bible Church, formerly called the Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle on Thursday, April 21, 2011. Family will be greeting friends from 1:00- 2:15 p.m. followed by a memorial service in Ruth's honor at 2:30 p.m.
