When Meezie and I became friends in college, I had the opportunity to see a small part of the magic of being part of Martha’s family. Dinners out during her visits to DC, time spent in Honesdale, leveraging her account at Georgette Klinger. And of course, Meezie taught me the lessons of her childhood: set a beautiful table, serve the good wine and always make time to laugh with friends. Wishing Meezie, Pam and Ned peace as they celebrate her memory.

We were blessed to have known Martha, even if for a short while. We know this much was true about her: she appreciated all things “arts”, she was a lady of class, her smile and voice exuded genuine joy (she always had what seemed to be a subtle/soft laugh while speaking), and her cooking came from the heart. We will miss the conversations, her adventurous stories and hearing her say, “Oh that’s wonderful”. Martha, thank you for touching our lives in such a very beautiful way.

When I finished my chemo, I treated my bald self to a workshop at Highlights, where Martha was so kind and encouraging to me. Then when I saw her again years later at another workshop, she remembered me and was so happy to see I was totally well again. Such a bright light!

Martha,
Thank you for sharing your love of reading and learning with our children, for your unmatched red pepper hummus, and for the many chats over the latest series we were watching. You will be missed.

Taylor was an irrepressible spirit -- funny, smart, generous and a joy to be around. I knew her through my mother Janet Hirschfeld, who was a classmate from Goucher College. Their beautiful friendship was one of my earliest examples of how remarkable it is to have a true soul mate of a friend who stays in your life through its many milestones and challenges. If my mom were still here, she'd be laughing and crying while thinking about Taylor, and so am I.

Martha's thoughtful demeanor and constant kindness will forever adorn our hearts. Her smile, a beacon of joy, is dearly missed. Years ago, I savored heartfelt conversations with her amidst the spectacle of horse shows, memories treasured to this day even after four decades. Return restfully in peace, dear Martha, a woman so sweetly remembered across years and distances.

She wore an apron with the same style and grace as a string of pearls. Our conversations, punctuated by her raspy laugh, always felt conspiratorial and were a joy to be part of.

Though we bid adieu to Martha, our beloved Mrs. Sader, her love and warmth that cradled the Sader offspring, and indeed enveloped all lucky enough to cross her path, splendidly outshines any farewell's gloom. She marvelously blurred the boundary between 'employer' and 'family', unfailingly treating me as the latter. Here's lifting a figurative toast to this remarkable lady who penned her own dictionary where the words 'stranger' or 'employee' simply failed to exist.
